6 officers injured, inmates transferred after brawl at Kern Valley State Prison: CDCR

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Six officers were hurt and three inmates were transferred to other institutions after a brawl at Kern Valley State Prison on Thursday, officials said.

Officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told 17 News at about 4 p.m. on Nov. 7 an inmate ran toward an officer and began hitting him. Staff responded and used chemical agents and physical force to stop the attack.

Two other inmates then began hitting staff, according to officials. Staff continued to use force and batons. Ultimately the attack was stopped.

An inmate manufactured weapon was found in the area and recovered, according to officials.

The six staff members involved were transported to an outside hospital for treatment and were released.

The inmates were evaluated at Kern Valley State Prson and did not require more treatment. Officials say thery were transfered to other insitutions and placed on restricted housing.
