Two inmates kill another at California State Prison, Sacramento

On February 23, at about 1320 hours, staff at California State Prison, Sacramento (CSP-SAC) observed Inmate Yates and Kennedy attacking Inmate Rude while on the recreational yard. Yates and Kennedy used inmate-manufactured weapons to repeatedly stab Rude in the upper body and back areas. One correctional officer fired a warning shot from his mini-14 rifle to stop the attack.

When staff arrived to secure the inmates, officers observed inmate-manufactured weapon still stuck in Rude’s back. Officers attempted life-saving measures but responding medical staff pronounced inmate Rude dead.

Two inmate-manufactured weapons were recovered from the scene.
