All CDCR institutions resume regular operations following contraband searches

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) announced that 21 prisons placed on a “modified program” over the last two weeks will return to normal operations. Visitation has now been restored to all prisons as well.

The CDCR explained the decision to enter modified programing at select institutions was made “in response to a recent and concerning rise in violent incidents directed towards both staff and incarcerated individuals.”

The following total contraband items were confiscated at the effected prisons since June 12, 2025:

193 improvised weapons

420 cellular devices

65 hypodermic needles

1,048 additional items including controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, escape paraphernalia, and other miscellaneous contraband
