On July 21, 2024 at 1912 hours, Inmates Lorenso Bridges, 32, and Marcus Thomas, 33, were observed attempting to murder Inmate Fernando Miranda, 65, at California State Prison – Sacramento. Bridges and Thomas used inmate-manufactured weapons to stab Miranda several times on the dayroom floor of a housing unit.

Officers used one 40mm round to stop the attack. Lifesaving measures were started for Inmate Miranda who was transported offsite for a higher level of medical care where he currently remains.

Two inmate-manufactured weapons were recovered. No staff were injured during this incident.

Also, on the same day at California State Prison – Sacramento there were several unrelated staff attacks throughout the prison. Inmate Jake Diaz attacked an officer hitting the officer’s face and shoulder. Inmate Jacob Sloan threw a bar of soap hitting a medial staff member. Inmate Jesus Molina kicked an officer in the leg. Inmate Joey Alvarez grabbed an officer’s hand with enough force to cause pain. And Inmate Ezekial Montez-Walker kicked an officer in the groin.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation does not believe in transparency and almost never lets the public know about the many inmate-on-staff assaults. The several officers and medical staff injured this one day at CSP-SAC is part of the normal routine these employees must endure as part of working the Toughest Beat in the State.
