Governor Newsom announced today his plan to shut down more prison yards in California

California Governor Newsom gave a speech this Friday to introduce his budget ideas to bring the State out of its 78-billion-dollar debt. Newsom is planning on shutting down 46 housing units at 13 Califorina prisons to save about 90-million-dollars. He also plans to speed up the shut down of Chuckwalla Valley State prison; the new date to shut down CVSP is November of this year.

Newsom is also planning on reducing yearly off-post training requirements and shut down the California Reality Based Training Center.

A major driver of the California budget crisis is the progressive tax system the State utilizes. Over half of the State revenue comes from the top 1% earners. Over the last few years many members of this elite group have fled the State causing major problems with the California tax revenue.
