While America watches the Superbowl, a California inmate attempts to murder a free staff custodian

Over the Superbowl Sunday weekend, several inmates attacked officers at prisons throughout the state of California. One attack, being investigated as an attempted murder, happened to a free staff member. Inmate attacks on free staff members are less common and worth note.

On February 11, 2024, at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton, CA, Inmate Robert Penate attempted to kill an environmental services custodian. Penate got the custodian in a choke hold and stated to the free staff member he was going to kill her if she attempted to call for help. Reports indicate Penate was attempting to take the custodian’s keys. The custodian fell for the trap of allowing the inmate to get too friendly with her and let the inmate follow her into a storeroom.

If you’re working the toughest beat in the state, please remember to watch your six and watch out for your partner. Although the politicians think the inmates are your friends, they are not. Inmates are criminals and have proven they will victimize others, including you. Be safe!
