On June 9, 2024, Inmate Rico Bell, 48, attacked his visitor at California State Prison – Los Angeles. Inmate Bell was with his approved visitor when he took an inmate-manufactured weapon and slashed his visitor several times. Custody staff used several applications of pepper spray to stop Bell’s attempted murder. The weapon was recovered and was a slashing-type weapon.
The visitor sustained several life-threatening injuries to her face and neck. This attack happened in the facility visiting area during normal visitation hours. Inmate Bell was rehoused into the Restrictive Housing Unit.
