On May 31, 2024, at approximately 0900 hours, Inmate Martin Uribie, 29, attacked two correctional officers at Pelican Bay State Prison. While one officer was removing Uribie from a holding cell, the inmate punched the officer in the chin and elbowed another officer in the chest. Officers used physical force to move the inmate to the ground, on the process of attempting to secure the inmate in handcuffs, Uribie bit one officer in the right forearm.
The officers were seen by medical staff and received minor injuries. Inmate Uribie received minor injuries and a nasal fracture as one officer was forced to punch the inmate in the face to gain compliance.
