According to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) data released today, there has been another increase in violence against staff working in California state prisons.
CDCR inmates attacked staff in 387 separate incidents in the month of April 2025. 307 of those incidents include inmates battering staff members and 4 incidents include inmates attempting to murder officers.
Despite CDCR inmate population decreasing, attacks on correctional officers have been increasing. The chart below depicts the percentage of staff attacks as a percentage of the inmate population.
