On Thursday, Inmate Hector Hernandez was found stabbed to death inside of his cell at High Desert State Prison, Susanville, California. Officers discovered Hernandez and called for medical assistance and had Hernandez transported to the prison’s triage center where he was declared dead at 1:02 a.m. by medical personnel.

Hernandez’s cellmate, Jonathan Gonzales, was placed into restricted housing during the investigation and their cell was made a crime scene. High Desert staff are investigating the homicide.

Hernandez was serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for two counts of first-degree murder and had been moved to High Desert from Los Angeles County on April 19.
