On Saturday, at about 1900 hours, Inmate Luis Padilla was stabbed to death by three other inmates. Inmates Juan Madrigal, Sanuel Ricardez, and Jonathan Orduno used inmate-manufactured weapons to repeatedly stab Padilla on a recreation yard at Ironwood State Prison. Despite quick efforts by staff to provide life-saving care, Padilla died shortly after.
Investigations are ongoing however at least one weapon has been recovered. The three assailants, Madrigal, Ricardez, and Orduno were rehoused into the restrictive housing unit.
