On May 3, 2024, Inmate Scott Cook, 49, was attacked and killed by Inmates Patch and Harris. The attack occurred during morning yard and required responding staff to use less-lethal tools to stop. After the use of blast grenades and one 40mm round, staff attempted life saving efforts for Inmate Cook until he was pronounced deceased by medial staff. Two inmate-manufactured weapons were recovered from the scene.
Cook was a first-term inmate from San Bernadino County serving a life without parole sentence for murder in the first, carjacking, and kidnaping.
