Friendlier prison officers? Why Gavin Newsom’s advisers want them at San Quentin

Converting a state prison into a rehabilitative center, as the Newsom administration seeks to do with San Quentin, means changing how correctional officers do their jobs. Instead of shying away from “overfamiliarity” with incarcerated people, prison officers should ask them about their families or favorite NFL teams. Instead of only reporting offenses, officers should note positive change in inmates.

What the Newsom, and the public, does not understand is most of the prison staff has regular conversations with the inmates. Due to Newsom’s complete lack of understanding of what a correctional officer does every day, he is trying to fix an issue that does not exist.

  1. All law enforcement should be just like Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke and be allowed to protect themselves from the criminals at any cost

  2. Bring back God’s laws as in the Holy Bible see how full the prisons are then as a victim myself I am sick of the way criminals are pampered instead of punished

  3. Newsom is an Idiot and him and his so called brainless staff do not know much of anything about SQ worked there for 20 yrs Retired LT
