Due to sites like The Toughest Beat, The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) has been forced to take some small actions regarding the severe increase in staff attacks and inmate murders.
After a series of serious attempted murders of CDCR peace officers and several inmate-on-inmate murders were reported to the public, CDCR was forced to modify program and search its Level III and IV institutions.
Although CDCR is known for lying and under-reporting, the following has been publicly reported by the department as discovered during the recent search activity.
53 inmate-manufactured weapons
66 cellular phones
24 syringes
155 other contraband items include controlled substances, weapon stock, and other illicit materials.

Although CDCR is normally very secretive, reporting from people like The Toughest Beat has recently forced CDCR to provide some public insight into the unsafe working conditions within its prisons. We know staff have been attacked in record numbers thanks to the poor management of CDCR; the correctional officer’s union (CCPOA) has also been silent due to a partnership they have with the California Governor. Please do your part on helping make the staff attacks public despite CDCR and CCPOA regular refusals to speak about this important issue.
