On September 9, 2025, an inmate at the California Correctional Institution used a metal weapon to stab a correctional officer in the hand.
At about 1645 hours a correctional officer was passing food trays to inmates at the California Correctional Institution (CCI). When the officer attempted to pass a food tray to Inmate Andres Ayon (BG5922) the inmate used an improvised weapon to stab the officer in the hand. Sources stated it appeared Ayon was aiming for the officer’s wrist/arm area, but missed with the blow landing on the officer’s hand.
The officer was transported offsite for further medical care.
The metal inmate-manufactured weapon was recovered.
