An inmate at Arizona State Prison Complex-Yuma died after he was attacked by fellow inmates.

The death of Leon Indian, who was in prison serving a Maricopa County sentence for second-degree burglary, is under investigation as a homicide, officials with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry wrote in a Dec. 12 news release.

The death is one of at least nine homicides that have occurred in Arizona’s state prisons in 2025.

Indian was transported to the Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, officials said. One of the alleged aggressors was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the department’s news release.
