CDCR officials are investigating the alleged attempted homicide of a peace officer at Richard J Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD) in San Diego.
On April 23, 2025 at approximately 5 a.m., Inmate Myatt Brandon used an improvised weapon to stab an officer through a food/cuff port, striking the officer’s protective vest. The officer was able to leave the area and call for assistance. Staff immediately responded and the weapon was relinquished without further incident.
The weapon did not penetrate the officer’s stab-proof vest. The officer was not injured in the attack.
Inmate Brandon was transferred to another institution. Prison officials are currently investigating the incident. The case will be referred to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for possible felony prosecution.
