Approximately 90 inmates were involved in a riot at Salinas Valley State Prison at Soledad on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Officers responded swiftly, utilizing chemical agents, foam bullets and blast grenades to restore order. Inmates involved in the incident were placed in restricted housing and 10 inmate-manufactured weapons were recovered from the scene. Three inmates sustained injuries requiring transfer to outside medical facilities. One staff member was treated for heat exhaustion.
Programs will be temporarily modified to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the riot.
