On January 7, 2026, at about 0930 hours officers on the California State Prison – Sacramento, Facility B yard were attempting to resolve a conflict with Inmate Anthony Potter (BK7044). Potter refused staff’s orders to go back to his cell and instead antagonistically approached staff. Staff used pepper spray to stop Potter’s actions, and he was able to be restrained with some resistance.
While staff were dealing with Potter’s actions, Inmate Tyrone McCrae (BM5773) stood up and ran across the yard aggressively towards the officers. Staff tried to order McCrae to stop, but he continued and grabbed an officer’s hand who was holding a baton. Staff used physical force and pepper spray to stop McCrae’s violent actions and secure him in handcuffs.
As a result of Potter’s and McCrae’s violent actions, multiple staff received injuries to include stiches to an eye lid and a nasal fracture. Both inmates were rehoused to restricted housing.
