On Tuesday, August 12, an inmate at the California Correctional Institution (CCI) attempted to kill a correctional officer. The prison is located in Tehachapi, California.
At approximately 1120 hours, a housing unit correctional officer was conducting yard recall when Inmate Fournier (C26661) attacked the officer with an inmate-manufactured weapon. Fournier was able to slash the neck of the officer until staff were able to subdue the inmate and place him in handcuffs. While attempting to subdue Inmate Fournier, another officer received injuries.
The two injured officers were transported to an outside medical hospital and later released. Inmate Fournier was rehoused into the Restricted Housing Unit.
