On September 15, 2025 an inmate at Mule Creek State Prison stabbed an officer multiple times. Other officers were injured by inmates following the attempted homicide.

At about 2015 hours, officers were attempting to persuade Inmate Anthony Byes (AV5845) to report properly for inmate count. Byes refused officers orders to return to his cell and threatened the officers with an inmate-manufactured weapon. Without warning, Byes pushed an officer in the chest. Staff were able to quickly place Byes on the ground and secure him in handcuffs.

Staff were escorting Inmate Byes outside of the housing unit while another officer remained in the housing unit. This officer was approached by Inmate Anthony Barra (BX1356) from behind. Grabbing the officer by the collar, Barra used an inmate-manufactured weapon to stab the officer multiple times in the back of the neck. Another officer was able to stop Barra’s attack using pepper spray. Before staff could secure Barra, the inmate threw his weapon inside of the building dayroom.

Inmate Armando Pacheco (AP3542) was observed taking the weapon from the dayroom. Pacheco took the weapon to his cell where he was housed with Inmate Raymond Moreno (T88971). Staff reported to Pacheco and Moreno’s cell to retrieve the weapon where Moreno grabbed an officer by the vest and headbutted the officer. Staff were able to overcome Moreno’s attack and secure him in handcuffs.

Two inmate-manufactured weapons were ultimately recovered.

One officer was sent to an outside hospital and later released.

Inmates Barra, Byes, Pacheco, and Moreno were rehoused into the Restricted Housing Unit.

  1. Ahhhhh..the wonderful California model at what used to be one of the weakest joints in the state. Our governor, in his abundance of wisdom, would probably just choose to release them to avoid the in prison violence stats he has to answer for. Easier to send them out to violate the general public.

    1. I thought Newscum said violence and crime was down in California. Oh that is reported or charges are down not actual crim itself.

  2. Wow,isn’t this a big assumption, that my husband is being accused of attempted murder for something he clearly didn’t do. Per RVR. And conflicting write-ups. Which both contradicts themselves . I believe that when the RVR is completely reviewed they will see who the suspect is . CDCR IS WRONG and falsely accusing an inmate isn’t right. That’s Defamation of character which in the state of California .which a person under oath assumes or put a label on someone that automatically gives a stigma about a person.which is wrong and a person under oath will be stripped of their badge . trust and believe this will happen if my husband gets any kind of stigma behind being wrongfully charged for another inmates doing. Period
