On January 9, 2026, at about 2030 hours, Pleasant Valley State Prison Inmate David Schumaker (BZ7693) was being medically treated at the Coalinga Regional Medical Center. While in a hospital bed, Schumaker jumped up, slammed a doctor into a door and ran for a building exit.
Correctional officers pursued the inmate and were able to use physical force to stop Schumaker near an exit door and bring him back for his planned treatment.
During Schumaker’s escape attempt he shoved a medical doctor into a door causing minor injuries to the doctor.
