On Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 1042 hours, a riot occurred between approximately 40 Blood and Crip gang members. The riot happened on a recreation yard of Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) and officers initiated a Code-3 response to gain control.
On the same day, earlier in the morning an inmate attacked and battered a correctional officer. The inmate was a Crip gang member.
These incidents follow the murder of Inmate Juan Trujillo, who was battered and stabbed on Monday by eight other inmates armed with inmate-manufactured weapons. KVSP was able to identify the attackers and is currently collecting evidence.
