Pleasant Valley State Prison inmate uses dummy to attempt escape

On December 8, 2025, at about 2000 hours, Inmate Ryan Gunion (CB4156) attempted to escape the minimum-security housing unit of Pleasant Valley State Prison.

Gunion made a dummy body in his bed and blocked the view of his bed with makeshift curtains. (Commonly called “tenting”.) After officers discovered the fake body in Gunion’s bed a search began and later discovered Gunion in the minimum security facility yard.

Later investigation revealed Gunion stashed clothing, food, and medicine outside of the facility to aid in his escape.
